We’ve lost a very dear friend.  Mike Byers passed away Monday with his wife Judy by his side.  In 37 years of marriage, they were never apart.  They were married on St. Patrick’s Day, 1976.  Together they raised two sons, Steven and Daniel.
Mike passed from heart complications after a long and courageous battle with health issues.  He was 64 years old.
Mike and Judy have been members of the Grange since 1997.  Mike was the current Master of the Dows Prairie Grange and a Deputy State Master for Humboldt and Del Norte Counties.
Mike was the CSG Membership Director for five years under State Masters Naomi Fletcher and Leo Bergeron.

Mike was genuine, a faithful friend, a gentleman, a devoted husband and a good father.  His arduous dedication to the Grange is immeasurable, but he asked for no glory.  He had great courage against the health challenges he faced.  The day before he passed, he gathered the strength to attend the Humboldt Pomona meeting and was elected to the Executive Committee.
Mike leaves us too early, with so much yet to be accomplished.  The work will be harder without him.  But Mike was a fine example, instructor and an inspiration.  In his spirit we will carry on.  Mike will be missed.  He will always be remembered.
There will be a brief remembrance this Saturday at 1:00pm at the Dows Prairie Grange.  All who knew and loved Mike are welcome.  A larger celebration of Mike’s life will take place later in the year, to be announced.
